Who
Hey there! I'm Everton
I started making games before I could write, and I have not found a good reason to stop since.
The early ones were scribbled maps and invented rules, worlds that existed on whatever paper I could find. My older brother was my first player and probably my biggest early influence, he is the one who handed me D&D and heavy metal, and both of them stuck.
I grew up on the coast of Brazil. Sun, salt water, a skateboard under my feet and a Magic deck in my pocket. It was a good childhood.
Somewhere between wipeouts and scraped knees I found RPG Maker 2000, at thirteen, and something clicked that never really unclicked. I kept building things through an International Commerce degree that I did finish, mostly out of stubbornness. The diploma exists. The game I made during the course too.
I consider myself a curious person. I get genuinely excited about a new space telescope and carry an embarrassing amount of completely useless facts around with me. If game development had not got to me first, I would probably have chased physics or engineering and been happy enough.
Growing up in a small Brazilian beach town in the 90s, geek culture reached me late. I came to D&D and Magic well after most people did, and I have missed more classics than I would like to admit. What did get through stuck hard. These days I only really play when I am back visiting friends, which makes those nights a real occasion.
At eighteen I met the woman I would marry. We have been together ever since, which says more about her patience than about me.
For a while I had a proper career at one of Brazil's biggest banks. It paid well and it wore me down so in 2017 my wife and I made the kind of decision that sounds reckless out loud: we packed up and moved to Italy. It took a fair bit of struggle to settle, and it is still the best call we have made.
Europe turned out to be what we needed, a new culture, and cheap flights that make a weekend somewhere beautiful almost embarrassingly easy. We travel when we can, though our rescue shepherd Kirara has added some delightful logistical chaos to that. She is full of energy and entirely worth it.
Now I work in developer relations at CrazyGames, which means I spend my days talking to other developers, a job that suits me more than I expected. Bëor Games is what happens around the edges of that. I have shipped a fair few games this way.
Once a week I have a Japanese online lesson with a school in Tokyo, just with the hope to be able to play Japanese games some day. It is my fifth language and definetely the hardest.
I build in the early morning, when things are quiet. There is nothing virtuous about the hour, it is just the part of the day when nobody needs anything from me, and that turns out to be when I think best. Coffee, some tasks, no notifications.
I am not a loud person and I am a hobbyist, which is a word I am fine with. Around ten hours a week, and that trade has suited me for years.
What I care about: games you can start in one click. No forty-minute tutorial. Something you understand in three seconds and are still turning over an hour later. Most of my design process is just that constraint, applied repeatedly.
If any of that sounds familiar, we will probably get along just fine.
